This is pretty cool, and I didn't know a thing about it until I saw an entry at
crowhen, cartoonist Rachel Neighbor's LJ. I am a nominee for a Friends of Lulu Award in the "Women of Distinction" category, the dark horse candidate against two DC editors, Karen Berger and Joan Hilty. Get thee to the site and vote! You don't have to vote for me (or maybe you do), but if you're a supporter of indie comics and what we contribute to the industry, especially as far as encouraging girls and women to make and read comics, it would be quite the statement.
That's the campaign slogan: A vote for Jennifer de Guzman is a vote for indie comics! Or independence, if you will.
Votes are due by June 30! Tell your friends.
Don't know what Friends of Lulu is? Here it is, straight from their site: "Friends of Lulu is a national nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote and encourage female readership and participation in the comic book industry."

Going through the list of past winners, I came across the sort of thing that confuses me with every award program. Best New Talent awards going to people who have already worked in the industry for several years. How does that happen?
... JOKING! You got my vote lady!
Is voting open to everyone, or just members?
And I gave some loving to the SLGer.
And I'd like to encourage everyone to vote for my friend and collaborator in the Newcomer category: the excellent Joelle Jones.

woo hoo! I've worked with 2 out of 3 of those editors :)
